5STAR commissions Twofour Group's Boomerang to produce Drag Kids documentary
20 Sep 2019
Welsh label Boomerang’s 2 x 60’ documentary, Drag Kids, will air on 5STAR later this Autumn.
This candid series explores the incredible journeys of three boys, aged 9, 10 and 12 as they follow their dreams of becoming fully fledged Drag Queens. Living with the tantrums and tiaras are the parents, who must combine supporting their children’s dreams with navigating this traditionally adult world.
Sam Grace, Boomerang’s Director of Programmes and Executive Producer, said: “It’s been fascinating following the stories of three courageous children pursuing their dreams to perform in Drag. The controversial topic will raise awareness as well as inspire conversation about this wonderful art form. We’re so excited to share this piece of work from our Welsh talent base.”
Seb Cardwell, Commissioner, Channel 5, added: “5STAR loves to shine a light on different lifestyles and sub cultures within the UK. This doc sensitively follows three families as they navigate the world of drag and its associated hurdles.”
Boomerang is part of the Twofour Group, which is part of ITV Studios. The series will be distributed internationally by Twofour Rights. The programme is executive produced by Sam Grace and series produced and directed by Matt Andrews. The show is commissioned by Denise Seneviratne and Seb Cardwell.
